GameSpot's Rocket League overview scored the game a nine/10. Reviewer Miguel Concepcion wrote, "With Rocket League, the promising concept of mixing terrific things--cars and football--is similarly wonderful in execution. You cannot say the identical issue about, say, combining cake and fruit to Buy Rocket League Credits make fruitcake, as the comedian Jim Gaffigan located."
While Rocket League is a clean evolution of developer Psyonix's 2008 recreation Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars, its origins lie even further returned, in a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004.
Psyonix founder Dave Hagewood recalled how the concept for LOLGA knocking a ball round with rocket-powered automobiles first happened more than a decade ago in a brand new interview with Gamasutra. He pointed out how, as a modder, he brought motors to Unreal Tournament 2003. This led to him running on Unreal Tournament 2004's vehicle-based Onslaught mode.
"That became sort of my massive break in the enterprise, and me and Ben Beckwith, who become a degree dressmaker on the time, had been honestly having a lot of fun taking one of the motors inside the enlargement percent and making it like, leap and spin inside the air and do hints and stuff like that," Hagewood stated of his time after running with Epic Games.
