Daniel Ricciardo believes Kimi Raikkonens grid penalty compounded his issues in Suzuka after the Australian lost out at the start of the race and ended up finishing a lonely sixth.Raikkonen was slapped with a five-place penalty two hours out from the start of the Japanese Grand Prix after taking a new gearbox, which meant Ricciardo jumped up to fourth, but on the slippery side of the grid. What seemed like a stroke of luck turned out to be anything but as Ricciardo and Hamilton -- who started on the same side in second -- both endured sluggish getaways.Raikkonens gearbox penalty was the opposite of a blessing in disguise. It put me on the wet side of the grid and it looked like all of us on that inside line struggled a bit, especially Hamilton, he said. My initial launch was not bad, but then having to go around [Hamilton] I crossed the wet patch and lost out, so then Perez got by.On the first stint we struggled to stay close, and it just seemed like we couldnt follow the cars that well with the dirty air and we diidnt have the straight line speed to make an attack.ddddddddddddRicciardo, who won last time out in Malaysia to break a two year race win drought, never seemed to have the pace of the frontrunners including teammate Max Verstappen who finished in second place for the second week in a row.Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is confident of turning it around for the United States Grand Prix in Austin in a fortnights time.I didnt feel that there was anything else we could do today. It was just a bit lonely out there trying to do my thing, but its one of those things, Ricciardo said. We will try improve the car were we can, but it was just more circumstances, and we will come back in Austin ready to not only eat plenty of barbeque but have a good weekend in track.Ricciardo is currently third in the drivers championship, 101 points behind leader Nico Rosberg and 42 ahead of fourth placed Raikkonen.
