Swashbuckling batsman, aggressive captain, and all-round good bloke… Nasser Hussain discusses the outgoing - in more ways than one - New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. Its a cliché to talk about cricketers being in the entertainment business but thats exactly what McCullum was in.He was never there to plod along and get a score for himself - he was the original see ball, hit ball guy who was there to show you what he could do.That came from his immense ability, though - it wasnt a case of Brendon waking up one morning and thinking Im going to transform the game, he knew he had the skill to back it up.Dont forget this is a man with a Test triple hundred, three more double hundreds, and 200 sixes in one-day international cricket! His fast hands and fast feet have been incredible to watch, with some of his knocks - particularly the 77 from 25 balls he scored against England in the World Cup, when the opposition didnt know what had hit them - have been incredible. McCullum marmalised England at the 2015 World Cup It can be easy as a player and a captain to be consumed by the game but if you worry about getting out and play fearful cricket, you never express yourself.McCullum never had that problem and always played fearless cricket, probably because its in his nature to be a bit of a gambler, a bit of a risk taker.Proof of that was that he often used up DRS reviews in the first over!If Brendon batted for an hour-and-a-half he could change the game - but he definitely changed the game as a captain in the modern era. Nasser says the Kiwi was a galvanising captain He worked out that in order to win matches you had to take wickets and have catchers in place - in the 2015 World Cup he pretty much adopted Test-match fields. You have to have the attack to deploy those fields - theres no point setting three slips and gully if your bowler is bowling leg-stump half volleys - and he had that in Trent Boult and Tim Southee.Players responded to him, though, and bought into his ideas - I guess it was hard not to if he was attacking all the time and telling you do the same. McCullums final ODI series ended with a win over Australia The other thing to mention is that he is a really nice guy.I know that doesnt really matter in the world of professional sport but he is, and I think it is a real shame that we are losing someone like him at the peak of his powers. At 34, going on 35, he could still have a good few more years left in international cricket and thats something the ICC and these T20 franchises around the world need to think about. How will you remember McCullum? FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Austin Seferian-Jenkins is getting a quick second chance from the New York Jets.Coach Todd Bowles is counting on the tight end to make the most of it.I dont have any reservations yet because I havent met him, Bowles said shortly after practice Wednesday. As I get to know him, obviously, with the situations hes been in, hes going to sink or swim on his own.We brought in the player. He has a chance to clean his act up, and well see what happens.Seferian-Jenkins arrived at the Jets facility after practice to complete his physical, and was expected to join his new teammates on the field for the first time Thursday. The talented but troubled tight end was claimed off waivers Monday from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who cut him last week after he was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence. Three days later, he had a new job with a new team.Hes a guy we looked at in the summer that we had interest in, Bowles said. He became available by unforeseen circumstances, so we figured wed take a look at him.The Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release last Friday that Seferian-Jenkins was driving between 75 and 80 mph on Interstate 275 when his vehicle cut in front of a troopers cruiser and weaved back and forth. He was charged with DUI and violation of an ignition interlock device restriction from an arrest in Washington in 2013.Seferian-Jenkins refused a breath test at the Hillsborough County Jail and was released by the Buccaneers later that day.A video posted by TMZ showed dash cam footage from the troopers cruiser of the arrest, during which Seferian-Jenkins repeatedly told the officer he had to use the bathroom.Bowles said he had not seen the video, but heard about it and would adddress it with Seferian-Jenkins when he met with him.ddddddddddddBefore making the move to claim him, the Jets did background on Seferian-Jenkins and felt comfortable enough that he could fit in with the team. He could face a suspension by the NFL for the alcohol-related offense, but the league often lets the legal process play out before handing down penalties. You weigh in on him and you ask a lot of questions, Bowles said. You go around and ask former coaches, former players that played with him, coaches hes with now, training staff, equipment, and you make an overall assessment and you come to an agreement to see how your locker room, how your team is and see if he has a chance to thrive or succeed in it. All you can do is give him a chance.Bowles was uncertain whether Seferian-Jenkins would be able to play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. If hes not up to speed, Bowles said, hes not going to play.Game notes WR Brandon Marshall has 12 catches for 160 yards and no TDs, and acknowledged that he needs to be better. I havent done a great job of getting open, he said. Ive just got to make more plays. He also feels for the online GMs who drafted him early. Its not a good start to the season to have me in your fantasy (league), he said with a smile. ... The Jets waived 2013 first-round pick CB Dee Milliner from injured reserve, a move that had been expected for some time. Milliner was waived/injured during final roster cuts and then spent the first three weeks of the regular season on the teams IR list with a hamstring ailment.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
