Christian Horner says it will be a great loss for Formula 1 if Ron Dennis leaves McLaren at the end of the season. Sky Sports understands Dennis is likely to leave his management role in December after more than 30 years at the helm of the Woking team amid long-running boardroom tensions. As leading figures at rival outfits, Horner and Dennis have been involved in several public spats down the years, but the Red Bull chief has showered praise on the McLaren chairman for his achievements in F1. I only have the utmost respect of Ron, Horner told Sky Sports News HQ.Weve gone head-to-head and fought over sponsors, engineers, drivers, whatever, but hes always played fair.It would be a great loss if hes not involved, certainly for McLaren and also Formula 1. Former Benetton and BAR Team Principal David Richards and Marc Priestley discuss whether Ron Dennis should leave McLaren Dennis is the most successful F1 team principal in history, winning a combined total of 17 Drivers and Constructors Championships before stepping down in 2009, and has since overseen the successful diversification of the McLaren Group. While fiercely competitive, Horner says the 69-year-old has also been known to put the interests of F1 before those of McLaren. The Formula 1 Gossip ColumnWhat he has achieved in Formula 1 is quite remarkable, added Horner. What he has built McLaren into is an example to us all.Hes a passionate man and he argues for the right things for Formula 1, sometimes to the detriment of his own team.Dennis has yet to comment publicly on the speculation over his future but said via a McLaren spokesman last month he is not stepping down. The Englishman owns 25 per cent of McLaren but friction between fellow shareholders, long-time business partner Mansour Ojjeh and Bahrains sovereign wealth fund, is thought to have resulted in the decision not to renew Denniss contract as chief executive when it expires at the end of the year.McLaren driver Fernando Alonso said at the Mexican GP he was in the dark about the situation, but was keen to find out in the next few weeks what changes, if any, were afoot. We have been racing now quite constantly in the last three or four weeks, Alonso told SSNHQ. Now between Mexico and Brazil, or after Abu Dhabi, we will sit with the team and know exactly what is the truth behind all these things. So right now I cannot tell you much. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Klay Thompson wanted one more quarter. He wanted to score 80, and thinks he absolutely could have.Hard to argue that one: He went off for 60 points in 29 head-shaking, jaw-dropping, defense-breaking minutes.Who knows? I know he would have kept shooting, coach Steve Kerr said. Klays never going to stop shooting.Thompson had an NBA season-high and career-best performance for the highest-scoring output by a Golden State player in more than 42 years, and the Warriors whipped the Indiana Pacers 142-106 on Monday night. At one point, Pacers coach Nate McMillan looked downright speechless during a quiet timeout on his bench.Thompson raised his arms to encourage more of those steady KLAY! KLAY! KLAY! chants then let it fly again and again. He had 60 through three and called it a night, sitting down with 1:22 left in the period as fans jumped to their feet for an extended standing ovation. Its just unfortunate two times I got my career high I didnt get to play the fourth quarter, Thompson said.He scored 40 by halftime in just 18-plus minutes. Nearly two years ago, Thompson had a 37-point quarter on the way to 52 points against Sacramento.Thompson joined Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry and Joe Fulks as the only Warriors to score 60 points. Barry was the last to do so, going off for 64 on March 26, 1974, against Portland. Now, Thompson hopes he gets a chance to go for more.Maybe. I think I could have, maybe one day Ill have the opportunity, he said, But 60 in 29 minutes is not too bad.Thompson shot 21 for 33 and 8 of 14 on 3-pointers -- 15 of 22 with five 3s in the first two quarters -- and converted 10 of 11 free throws in 29 minutes. When he knocked down a turnaround baseline 3 under pressure midway through the second quarter right in front of a resting Curry on the bench, the shot sent the MVP into a tunnel-dashing frenzy of delight.Thats a feat that I put money on will probably never be touched ever again in the history of basketball, Curry said.Previously this season the highest scorers were Oklahoma Citys Russell Westbrook with 51 in an overtime game and Anthony Davis with 50 in regulation for the Pelicans.I felt every shot I took was a good shot, Thompson said.Kevin Durant added 220 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks for Golden State in another display of impressive passing.dddddddddddd The Warriors 15 first-quarter assists matched a franchise record done twice previously and they wound up with 45 total -- two off the franchise record they set Nov. 24 against the Lakers. In one sensational third-quarter play worthy of the highlight reel, Thompson had no part: Off a jump ball, Draymond Green hit Curry with a long heave and Curry made a leaping, one-touch pass to Durant for the dazzling alley-oop. Curry had 13 points and 11 assists.Thompson scored 17 points in just under 9 minutes to begin the game and Golden State had 15 assists on its initial 17 baskets and led 38-27 after the first.A guy like that, the best defense is not to allow him to catch, McMillan said.Paul George had 21 points and 10 rebounds a night after playing nearly 34 minutes and much of that with tissue in his bloody nose.TIP-INSPacers: The Pacers own a 2-7 road record. They have lost eight of 10 on Golden States home floor.Warriors: The Warriors notched their second game with 40 or more assists, the first team since Cleveland in 1992-93 with more than one 40-assist game. ... Golden State is 6-0 against the Eastern Conference.SELLOUT MILESTONEThe Warriors reached 200 straight sellouts over the regular season and playoffs, to which Warriors coach Steve Kerr joked, If I had to do the math, I havent even been here for half of those. Its long been a daunting road venue for opponents.Youve got to bring your best to play here, Pacers coach Nate McMillan said. Youve got to come here and youve got to hoop. Certainly if you dont, you dont come out of here with a win. Great atmosphere.UP NEXTPacers: Continue their five-game road trip with the second-to-last game Wednesday at Phoenix, where the Pacers have lost eight of the last 11 meetings.Warriors: Begin a five-game road trip over seven days at the Clippers on Wednesday night.
