Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo believes Formula One drivers need to face a deterrent while racing in order to avoid being less than perfect.A debate regarding safety in F1 was sparked after Bernie Ecclestone suggested the sport should artificially increase the element of risk by introducing walls around corners to prevent drivers from simply running wide. In Thursdays drivers press conference in Mexico, drivers including championship leader Nico Rosberg were quick to dismiss the idea. When asked what he prefers, Ricciardo replied: Its tough because we always talk about safety but I think walls are actually pretty good. Even like Monaco, if you slide into the wall its just there and thats it. I like the idea of walls that they are a permanent thing. Its like Lewis in Monaco when he was defending me and cut through the chicane, if there was a wall there, happy days, I win the race. Im not a fan of the real open stuff, at least have something there that is a deterrent. The Australian insists drivers should have to face consequences when going off circuit and admitted he has become frustrated by looking less good for not paying the price after a mistake. We always talk about it in driver briefings. Whether its bringing some gravel back or these sort of speed bump kerb things are doing the job in some areas. So its improving, but I think its more when a driver can just run off wide and come back on track and not really pay a penalty.Thats where its a bit where youre like at least have some penalty to pay. At the end of the day if you go off wide, you lock a brake or whatever but youve missed the apex, youve made a mistake so you should lose some time for making a mistake.I think thats the thing that frustrates me more, it allows too many of us to be less than perfect and it makes us look less good as well if were always making mistakes and not paying any penalty for it. EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has had quite the rough week.A couple of days before Minnesotas second straight lopsided loss, a 20-10 defeat Monday in Chicago, Zimmer began to experience trouble with his vision. He then scratched one of his eyes during the game, which prompted team doctors to send him for further examination.Zimmer was diagnosed Tuesday with a torn retina, which required surgery to repair. He was warned that further delay in treatment put him at risk for blindness. Its probably a good thing that I scratched my eye during the game. Otherwise I may not have caught it in time, Zimmer said Wednesday, while wearing sunglasses to limit the outside light as he held his news conference next to the teams practice fields. But hopefully everything will be all right.Zimmer had been watching film with his good eye, using reading glassess so he can write down notes in preparation for the game Sunday against Detroit.ddddddddddddAfter spending the night at team headquarters following the procedure in the morning, Zimmer then learned that offensive coordinator Norv Turner was resigning.Well, I do think that weve hit a rough spot in the season, and we need to get back on track, you know? Zimmer said. This is just part, unfortunately, of some of the things that go on throughout the course of the year. Obviously the seasons a long time, and not everythings going to go smooth, as Ive found over the three years. So well just keep trying to do the things that we have to do to continue to get better.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
