To pull off this move they likely would have tried to franchise tag him, then trade him. Considering they acknowledge there was no way to pay him long term theres no other way, unless they worked out a contract and then found a team with both the cap space and big enough need to trade premium picks and afford whatever deal the Rams offered him. Considering he made it clear he wouldn't play under the fifth year option he likely would not have signed the franchise tag. Since the Rams would have traded him, negotiations probably would have been easy. Whatever the case may be, the world will never know how this would have worked out. It is believed the Raiders liked the offer but felt the Rams team is too good, and the picks would be too low and not worth it. Classic scenario of when being good is bad (insert facepalm). It's an interesting thought nonetheless. Just look at the impact he had on the Chicago Bears defense in week one. It's a lost dream now, but damn it's nice to fantasize about what could have been....
